Frost & Sullivan Applauds Kentkart’s Technologies for Enhancing the Travel Experience with Smart Transportation Solutions

Based on its recent analysis of smart systems in the transportation industry, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Kentkart A.Ş with the 2015 European Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Line Strategy Leadership. Kentkart’s cutting-edge technologies for intelligent transportation systems are helping it claim the top spot in Turkey. It stands out for being one of the few companies in the country to have its own R&D department and is supported by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK).

“Kentkart’s automated fare collection and vehicle management systems offer public transport operators measurable data, which, in turn, helps to boost their operations in terms of quality, economics and profitability,” said Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Krishna Achuthan. “These solutions address the issue of traffic congestion in most urban locations by providing a smooth and reliable public transportation network.”

Similarly, Kentkart’s real-time passenger information system provides up-to-date information on all locations such as bus stops, metro stations and quays, while its onboard systems and mobile devices continue to stream information during travel. The system also provides better accessibility to the differently abled by including information about the vehicle type and onboard visual/verbal communication of present and upcoming stops.

The levels of safety and communication during commutes have improved considerably due to Kentkart’s video surveillance systems. Users reported substantial decrease in thefts, passenger complaints and unfortunate incidents, as these systems aid real-time video capture of passengers and staff members on board.

Kentkart carries 1.8 billion passengers with 13 million contactless smart cards annually. Over the past three years, it sold 14 million contactless smart tickets and generated 250,000 new passengers through its solution, KentMobile. The KentMobile is a mobile passenger information system that can be downloaded free of charge, enabling users to access information such as vehicle location, the nearest stops, and their credit balance. Furthermore, it can be recharged by simply entering the user’s smart card number.

Kentkart’s latest venture is an application that can process the purchase of tickets for public transport. The highlight of this application is that it is compatible with an Android or any near-field communication (NFC)-enabled smart phone. Through this application, the validator on the public transport vehicle can read the virtual ticket downloaded by the passenger. Future upgrades include the installation of a Bluetooth receiver antenna in the vehicle so that payments can be deducted directly from the smart phone according to the distance traveled. This, in turn, will lead to reductions in the transportation system’s infrastructure costs, as passengers will not have to pass through turnstiles before entering the vehicle.

Besides the ticketing application, Kentkart developed the KentTablet Validator, which accepts credit cards in public transport buses, and is said to provide an open host-based structure for the database infrastructure and business models.

Due to price policies and public transport models, the structure of public transportation services differs according to each city. Kentkart assigns each project a special project engineer to immediately address the emerging needs and expectations of each customer. Kentkart’s analysts then review the customer’s demands by developing different ideas to suit individual needs. The solution aims to lower the vacancies and inefficient use of vehicles as much as possible.

Kentkart continues to remain one of the three main participants in the Turkish market, providing intelligent transportation solutions to Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Its top-notch service and quality have helped it expand in 10 countries and 36 cities, making it a worthy recipient of Frost & Sullivan’s 2015 European Product Line Strategy Leadership Award.

Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has developed a comprehensive product line that caters to the breadth of the market it serves. The award recognizes the extent to which the product line meets customer base demands, the overall impact it has in terms of customer value, as well as increased market share.
